Everything Old, New Again
I grew up in the country. In the swampy northeastern corner of North Carolina, to be exact. Being resourceful and creative was not an option in my rural upbringing. A design lesson I took with me when I left for college: Use everything possible to make life meaningful and beautiful.
Time and again, I saw how old things could be made new. Old shirts made into quilts. Old aluminum pipe, made into a wind chime. Even old tractor tires made into large planters.
The other day I ran across a blog post about some recycled tire flower pots from France. Instantly I was taken back to little ole Creswell town where the tire planters sprout from sideyards like mushrooms after the rain.
Who knew the old recycled tire could be made even better?
I wonder what other ideas from my old country kin could be made new again.
