Create a Business Bucket List

August 23rd, 2010 by Linda Hargrove Create a Business Bucket List

There’s a lot to be said about the personal bucket list: that list of things you want to do before you die. But how about a bucket list for your business? What things do you want to do or be done through your business before you die (or end your business)?

Here’s my short list …

  • Find a mentor.
It’s kind of embarrassing to admit that I’ve been doing what I do for more than 15 years without a mentor. It’s time to stop being ‘super girl’, eh?
  • Attend a high-profile industry conference as a panelist or speaker.
For a lot of introverts voluntarily speaking at a large conference is up there with drinking poison. I’m at a point in my life that I feel like I need to give back. Comfort zone be dashed.
  • Take a yearly vacation for an entire week.
Few small business owners are able to take a real vacation. My desire is to build up enough reserve that I can vacate the premises without worrying about lot of income or opportunities.
  • Teach someone to do everything I can do (print and web stuff)
This is pretty high on my list, actually. I’m big on teaching people. I’ve discovered that not many designer/developers are … not for free that is. But I’m crazy that way. I’m looking for a few good men, women, or children who grow their designer/coder muscle. BRING YOUR OWN SOFTWARE (and perseverance).
  • Develop long-term mutually-beneficial business connections.
You could call this relationship marketing or just plain and simple, ‘making friends.’
  • Delegate more.
I just have to develop relationships with folks to which to delegate.

So that’s my list, in no particular order. What’s on your list?
